Lauren completed Design Fundamentals, a course exploring foundational principles of design and their application in visual storytelling. Through play analyses and creative projects, Lauren developed a deep understanding of elements like line, shape, texture, and color, as well as how these principles evoke emotion and meaning. A standout project was the "Emotion in a Box" assignment, where students created a container symbolizing a specific emotion. For this project, Lauren carved a foam mannequin head and utilized design principles to depict anxiety, integrating jagged textures, chaotic forms, and contrasting elements to convey the overwhelming, tangled sensations of the emotion. This hands-on experience not only sharpened her technical skills but also deepened her ability to translate abstract concepts into impactful visual designs, a skill she continues to bring to her work in theatre and beyond.
